8 Juni 2026, Pontevedra (Spanje) - Together with 9 other partners, last week, BTG kicked-off the GREENSPIRE project. In this project Product Environmental Footprint Category Rules (PEFCRs) of two sectors, i.e. home textile (bed, table, toilet, kitchen linen, curtains blinds, valances), and polyurethane (PU) foams (flexible foams for mattresses, cushions, and pillows and rigid foams for PUR/PIR insulation materials will be developed.
PEFCRs are sets of standardised, sector-specific "rulebooks" established by the European Union to calculate and measure the environmental impact of a specific product group or service throughout its entire life cycle.
The PEFCR helps companies make trustworthy environmental claims, combat greenwashing, and promote sustainability in the space sector based on the Product Environmental Footprint (PEF) method, an EU-recommended approach for life cycle assessments (LCAs).
BTG will gain insight into the existing knowledge on the LCA/PEF aspects and sustainability solutions in the home textile and PU sectors, and detect knowledge gaps. Later, BTG will also be involved in validation and testing of the draft PEFCRs developed in the GREENSPIRE project, among others by performing a full LCA on specific home textile products, following the draft PEFCR. We look forward to the deep dive into these two sectors, with a great team of top LCA specialists from Spain, Luxemburg, Switzerland, Belgium and France, in the GREENSPIRE project, that was initiated by BTG and is led by Spanish partner Contactica.
