GHG emission reductions
Many bioenergy projects reduce the emissions of greenhouse gases by replacing fossil energy and avoiding methane emissions from unused biomass. The Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) and Joint Implementation (JI) offer possibilities to valorise and trade emission reductions with companies and governments that have obligations under the Kyoto Protocol. Voluntary Emission Reductions (VERs) can be sold to companies and individuals that wish to offset their emissions voluntarily.
Already since 1999, BTG provides on a regular basis carbon consultancy and has performed services in more than 35 carbon emission projects. BTG develops and manages a CDM project portfolio in Brazil on behalf of Bioheat International and a 1.3 million tonnes CO2-eq reduction JI project in the Czech Republic. The Czech portfolio involves a total of 15 fuel-switch projects and was the first project contracted under the Dutch ERUpt program.
BTG is fully acquainted with all procedural, technical, financial and practical issues in all stages of the carbon project cycle, from project identification to development and management of CDM, JI and green investment scheme projects. BTG is increasingly active in the voluntary market (VCS, VER+, Gold Standard, etc.) and offers its assistance in all phases of CDM, JI, AAU and VER project development (Carbon Consultancy) to project owners and emission trading companies.
